Broadloom carpet, is woven on a very wide loom. Most commonly, this type of carpet is shipped and installed in 12-foot wide large rolls. The wider size is great for large areas that need to be covered, and is perfect for seamless installation in residential and commercial settings. Broadloom carpet is available in a wide variety of style, colors, and patterns created to give you the feel you want. In fact, having become more popular for high-traffic commercial application in recent years, broadloom carperting is avaialble for purchase in square carpet tiles.
As broadloom is typically installed over a carpet pad, it is more forgiving with minor imperfections in the subfloor that would otherwise need repaired/corrected before the carpet is installed. Carpet tiles, conversly, are mounted directly to the subfloor rather than over a carpet pad. So, any imperfections that exist may compromise the placement and durability of the tile itself and must be corrected prior to installation. An advantage to using carpet tiles, provided the subfloor is as it should be, is that it eliminates the need for an underlay material and simplifies the installation process of carpet tiles. Also, carpet tiles can even be installed without moving furniture out of a room!
Regardless of whether broadloom carpeting or carpet tiles are installed, both provide a warmer and more insulated floor than a simple, hard surface material. The suitability of one over the other depends on a number of factors such as volume of foot traffic, location of flooring, and the aesthetic desired. And, if you want, you can even use broaloom carpet as a rug in larger areas. The rugs may be cut to the size you need, cheaper than a premade rug, and 100% customizable. That means, just as with the carpet and tiles, you can completely match it to your setting. Either solution performs best with a consistent and effective maintenance program in place.
